Numbers 34: The borders of the land, and the men who will divide it

A free study, verse by verse. Text: World English Bible. Notes come from the Hebrew. How to read a study

What happens?

Yahweh tells Moses the borders of the land of Canaan that Israel is to inherit: the south border from the wilderness of Zin, the Great Sea on the west, the north border to Hamath, and the east border down the Jordan to the Salt Sea. Moses tells the people that this land is for the nine and a half tribes, since Reuben, Gad and half of Manasseh have their land east of the Jordan. Yahweh names the men who will divide the land: Eleazar the priest, Joshua, and a leader from each tribe.

Who is speaking?

Yahweh speaks to Moses. God's own words are in 23 of the 29 verses: the borders in verses 2 to 12 and the names in verses 17 to 28. In verses 13 to 15 Moses speaks to the people. God's own words are printed in gold, and those verses are marked God speaks
