Job 20: Zophar on the short joy of the wicked

A free study, verse by verse. Text: World English Bible. Notes come from the Hebrew. How to read a study

What happens?

Zophar the Naamathite answers. He speaks of a wicked man whose joy lasts only a moment: the wealth he swallowed he will vomit up, cobra venom, fire and a bronze arrow come on him, and the heavens and the earth stand against him. He ends by calling this the portion of a wicked man from God.

Who is speaking?

God does not speak in this chapter, so nothing is in gold. Zophar the Naamathite speaks the whole chapter (verses 2 to 29); verse 1 is the narrator. In verse 7 he tells what those who saw the wicked man will say: "Where is he?" God's own words are printed in gold, and those verses are marked God speaks
