1 Chronicles 26: The gatekeepers, the treasuries, and the officers and judges
A free study, verse by verse. Text: World English Bible. Notes come from the Hebrew. How to read a study
What happens?
The chapter lists the divisions of the gatekeepers, from the Korahites and from Merari: the sons of Meshelemiah, of Obed-Edom and of Hosah. They cast lots for the east, north, south and west, and for the storehouse. Other Levites are over the treasuries of God's house and of the dedicated things, which David, the heads of the fathers' households and the army captains dedicated, as did Samuel, Saul, Abner and Joab. Last come the Izharites and Hebronites who are officers, judges and overseers for all the business of Yahweh and the service of the king.
Who is speaking?
The narrator tells the story. No verse is in gold: no one speaks in this chapter. It is a list of men and their duties. God's own words are printed in gold, and those verses are marked God speaks

27They dedicated some of the plunder won in battles to repair Yahweh’s house.
In plain English: They dedicated some of the plunder won in battles to repair (or: strengthen) Yahweh's house.
The Hebrew word: "Repair" is chazaq, which the dictionary gives as "to fasten upon; hence, to seize, be strong ... repair, fortify". It can be read as "repair" or as "strengthen".
What changes: Read as "repair", the plunder went to mend the house. Read as "strengthen", it went to keep it strong. The text says only that some of the plunder from the wars was dedicated for this.

30Of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brothers, one thousand seven hundred men of valor, had the oversight of Israel beyond the Jordan westward, for all the business of Yahweh and for the service of the king.
In plain English: Of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his relatives, one thousand seven hundred men of ability, were over Israel beyond the Jordan westward (see the note), for all the work of Yahweh and for the service of the king.
The Hebrew word: "Beyond the Jordan" is ever, which the dictionary gives as "a region across ... on the opposite side (especially of the Jordan; usually meaning the east)". The Hebrew here adds "westward".
What changes: Read as "across the Jordan, to the west", these men oversaw the land west of the river. The dictionary says the word usually means the east side, and verse 32 puts the Reubenites, the Gadites and half of Manasseh, who are east of the river, under other Hebronites. The text does not explain this.
