A free study, verse by verse. Text: World English Bible. Notes come from the Hebrew. How to read a study
What happens?
Yahweh tells Moses how Aaron is to set up the seven lamps so that they light the area in front of the lampstand, and Aaron does it. Then the Levites are made clean, with water, shaving, washed clothes and offerings, and are presented before Yahweh as a wave offering from Israel: Yahweh takes them in place of Israel's firstborn and gives them to Aaron and his sons. The Levites serve at the Tent of Meeting from twenty-five years old, and stop the work at fifty.
Who is speaking?
Yahweh speaks to Moses three times, in verses 1, 5 and 23. God's own words are in 18 of the 26 verses: about the lamps in verse 2, about making the Levites clean and giving them to Aaron in verses 6 to 19, and about the Levites' years of service in verses 24 to 26. Verses 3, 4 and 20 to 22 tell what Aaron, Moses and the Israelites did. God's own words are printed in gold, and those verses are marked God speaks
