Leviticus 14: Made clean again, and mould in a house
A free study, verse by verse. Text: World English Bible. Notes come from the Hebrew. How to read a study
What happens?
Yahweh tells Moses what is done on the day a person with the skin disease is healed: the priest goes out of the camp and uses two birds, cedar wood, scarlet and hyssop, and the person washes, shaves and waits seven days. On the eighth day offerings are made at the Tent of Meeting, with a smaller set allowed for a poor person. Then Yahweh tells Moses and Aaron what to do when a mark of mould appears in the walls of a house in Canaan.
Who is speaking?
Yahweh speaks to Moses, and from verse 33 to Moses and Aaron. God's own words are in 50 of the 57 verses: verses 2 to 31 and 34 to 53. In verse 35 Yahweh gives the words the owner of the house is to say. Verse 32 and verses 54 to 57 are closing lines that sum up the law, outside the quotation marks. God's own words are printed in gold, and those verses are marked God speaks

In plain English: He is to kill the lamb in the holy place, where the sin offering and the burnt offering are killed. Like the sin offering, the trespass offering belongs to the priest. It is most holy.
The Hebrew words: "Trespass offering" is asham, which the dictionary gives as "guilt". "Sin offering" is chatta'ah, the same word as "sin".
How it is translated: This Bible says "trespass" in 34 of the 41 verses that use asham, and "guilt" in 4. For chatta'ah it says "sin" in 267 of its 270 verses.
What changes: Many newer Bibles say "guilt offering", and some say "purification offering" for the sin offering. Read as "purification offering", the offering here is for making the person clean ( says "because of his uncleanness"). The chapter does not say he has sinned.

How it is translated: This Bible says "atonement" in 43 of the 44 verses in Leviticus that use it.
